proverbs-31-8My daily devotional recently took me to the Book of Proverbs,

Speak out for those who cannot speak,
For the rights of all the destitute.
Speak out, judge righteously,
Defend the rights of the poor and needy.
– Proverbs 31: 8-9

Recently, I have had the privilege to serve on the Northumbland County’s 20,000 Homes Advisory Team. A group of like minded individuals and agencies who want to speak out for those whose voice is often not heard. We are also entering a time of year known for the abundance of giving that occurs. Let’s give by speaking out, let’s give by making change.

Almighty and eternal God, you remind us that we are to speak out for those who do not have a voice. To advocate on behalf of those whom society ignores. You ask us to display your justice, mercy and righteousness. During this Advent season empower us to do your will, to defend the poor and needy. In speaking out, we pray that the world is changed, that lives are impacted for the better. In Jesus name. Amen.
