Today is Remembrance Day. Today is a day when we remember those who have fought in past wars. Fighting for the cause of freedom, liberty and ultimately for peace. Regrettably, conflict and war are still a part of our everyday life. Though the battles are fought in far off places and infrequently affect our daily living they are still occuring.
Today we remember. However, in remembering we also look forward to a time when God’s peace may reign. When God’s promise revealed in Jesus Christ can be received by all people. We look forward to a time when we can lay down our weapons and embrace one another as brothers and sisters in Christ.
To that end we pray:
Almighty and eternal God, in your son Jesus Christ we are brought into communion with you. In life and in death we can never be separated from your great love for us. Hear our prayers for all whom we remember today, that through them your great love would be realized by all. Let all people know and participate in your eternal joy, through Jesus Christ. Amen.
God of justice and truth, we remember those who have lived and died fighting for peace and justice. We honour their memory and their sacrifice. We pray for a time when such sacrifice would no longer be required. In you we place our hope, in you we find the fulfillment of our future. Almighty God, you are the source of all life and we give you thanks. Amen.
