The Psalms are a wonderful resources when you are struggling with prayer. Often in our prayer life we can get stuck or find ourselves in a rut. We find ourselves praying for the same thing repeatedly. In some instances this can frustrate us and in our frustration we block ourselves from God. Within the book of Psalms a wide variety of devotional material is available to us. We find Psalms of praise and those of lament. The human experience is found within the Psalms, a wide range of emotions are laid bare before us. However, within the Psalms we also find aspects of the character of God. Within the Psalms we see how the Israelite’s related to their creator.
If you are struggling with your own prayer life, if prayer seems more like reading a grocery list than a conversation with our Holy Creator consider praying the Psalms as a way to refresh your prayer life and rekindle the relationship that you have with God.
This Sunday the Psalm in the lectionary is Psalm 100. Consider using this Psalm of praise this week during your prayer time.
Psalm 100:
Shout for joy to the Lord, all the earth.
Worship the Lord with gladness;
come before him with joyful songs.
Know that the Lord is God.
It is he who made us, and we are his;
we are his people, the sheep of his pasture.
Enter his gates with thanksgiving
and his courts with praise;
give thanks to him and praise his name.
For the Lord is good and his love endures forever;
his faithfulness continues through all generations.
