What does it mean to be at witness?
A witness is reliable, truthful in the telling of information.
A common understanding might be for a witness to be passive. To only provide information when asked. The legal sense of being a witness is perhaps most often thought of. However, this isn’t necessarily the case. There are many ways to be a credible witness. What is often not thought of is what it means to bear witness.
A witness in a legal setting recounts events that they have experienced. However, the witness may not have intentionally placed themselves into that position. It is happenstance that has resulted in their being called a witness.
One who seeks to bear witness deliberately puts themselves in a position to observe events with the purpose of retelling what has transpired.
As Christians we are called to bear witness to the events of Easter. To recount as active observers the life, death and resurrection of Jesus Christ.
