Have you ever invited someone over for a visit? Perhaps it was tea and a brief chat in the afternoon or maybe you invited your neighbours over for dinner. Either way I am sure you have either entertained company or been entertained yourself.
Now think about that day and the things you did. When your company arrived did you take their coats? Did you offer them something to drink? Did you provide them with something to eat?
Each of these actions is normal and customary when we invite people into our homes. Compare what you do when you have company over to what happens to Jesus in our gospel lesson for this Sunday.

Prayer for Sunday
Gracious God, you set a table for us before our enemies. You welcome us with open arms and a warm embrace. You nurture our souls and shower us with abundant mercy. May we demonstrate that same love and grace towards all people that we meet. Allow us to be gracious hosts as we share your love with the world. In Jesus name. Amen.
