Below is a prayer that Rev. Peter Bush, Moderator of the General Assembly provided in light of the recent shooting at First Baptist Church, Sutherland Springs, Texas.
God have mercy, Christ have mercy, God have mercy,
We pray for your arms of love to enfold the people of First Baptist Church and the people of Sutherland Springs.
We pray with the grieving who have lost loved ones that they know God’s comfort, we pray for the injured that they would recover, we pray for the community shattered by the shooting that they would know hope, we pray for Pastor Frank Pomeroy serving First Baptist Church in the midst of personal grief, and we pray for first responders and medical personnel who have responded to this tragedy.
May the hope of the resurrection, made real in Jesus Christ, shine as a beacon of light in the midst of the darkness of this time.
In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen.
