This past Sunday we talked a little bit about pride and walking humbly with God. With this in mind I think it is important to continue to remember to walk humbly with God. To consider ourselves as children of God and how God is using us. As God said to Job when he spoke to him out of the whirlwind:
Then the Lord spoke to Job out of the storm. He said:
“Who is this that obscures my plans
with words without knowledge?
Brace yourself like a man;
I will question you,
and you shall answer me.
“Where were you when I laid the earth’s foundation?
Tell me, if you understand. – Job 38: 1-4
Sometimes we forget that God is there. In the midst of our lives, in the midst of our own joys and cares we forget about our creator. We only see our own immediate concerns. We forget that there is one who is walking beside us, one who has planned great things for. It is our own loss that we forget. As we read on Sunday in Matthew’s gospel:
The greatest among you will be your servant. For those who exalt themselves will be humbled, and those who humble themselves will be exalted. – Matthew 23: 11-12
A Prayer for Today:
Heavenly Father, walk with me today. Allow me to walk in your shadow that I might understand myself as seen through you. You existed before all things, out of love you brought creation into being, through you all things find meaning. Allow me not to be proud or envious, instill in me a pure heart that is focused on you.
Allow me to walk humbly with you. Casting aside thoughts of my own greatness so that I can better work for your kingdom which will benefit all people. Allow your thoughts to be my thoughts as I continue to be led by the teaching of your son Jesus Christ.
I pray that your Spirit dwell richly upon me. Grant me your peace loving God. I pray it in the name of the one who brought your peace to Earth, Amen.
